Use chem Lights! posted by: Pinkie
Chem Lights are good idea for night fighting. If you making assault on your target (eg. building), you can throw some chem lights to the sides to protect your flanks. Also if you see a sandbagged weapon pit, try to throw a chem light inside the pit. Most likely it will be occupied and you can shoot the enema. Make sure you stay out of any sort of lights because enemy can see you. If you wanna cover wide area leave small gaps in between the chem lights, so you can crawl through them if required.
Alternative Night Ops. posted by: DOM
Heres a different slant on night ops, basiclly the ecounter range on a night ops expert waering uv googles is about 15 to 18 squares so you dont need to use long range weapons but you doo need weapons with stopping power, so at the start use shotguns and smgs mac 10s if you can get them and there after use colt commandos, thease guns are great, they are light and accurate and do decent damage only problem is 5.56 ammo has problem punching through kevlar so try to upgrade to m-14s thease rifles have a bad range compared to the ak-74 m16 and fals but the do more damage and as you will raraley have to shoot over twenty sqaures this is not imporatant. I used this tactic with stalker my custom merc, dr q, spider, scope, wolf, and steven and rarley took a hit but i wiped out over 70 guys on patrol in one night using the truck and only got shot about twice and hit once.
Smoke bombs in the night. posted by: Erhan OZAYDIN
Enter a sector with hi level guys. Pack them tight. Be sure to have 3-4 smoke bombs with u. Throw a smoke grenade beside one of your mercs. (You read it all right, beside your merc). After all of your mercs are covered with smoke, fire one shot into the air. Enemies will run to u. They wont see u untill they come right beside u, and that's when u get an interrupt. start punching him. 4 ap each and the enemy should be down after 3 succesful punches. Then you can steal his everything. kill him with your punches. Your strength, dexterity and agility as i remember increases a lot. Even better if you have dusters and crowbars with u. Worked fine with me. Just be sure you are never lifting the smoke cover on u. Works in daytime too, but donot trust it. Excellent if you have a hi level in early game.
Vision range and surpise posted by: Ghoster
Night op is the way to go. Have your best night op merc(Raven works really well here) with ears and uv goggle. That way, you see the enemy before they can see you. Send him/her out in front of rest of you mercs. Use long range weapons from the back like the FN-FAL and Steyr to kill the unlucky enemy. Only move when the game is in real time mode, so that the player has first intercept instead of the computer. Works less well with elite guards as they have longer vision range. Works xtremely well on open fields against assualt groups. Killed 42 guards in one night once.
Hit and run posted by: Snap
As the game progresses, you'll find night ops more and more difficult. One of the main reasons is that unlike a human player, enemy can remember exactly your location, and then very accurately throw grenades, or sometimes even shoot without even seeing you. (Try to remember the dark spot where an enemy just flashed - it's very difficult.) So, you can't just sit in one spot like on a shooting range. Kill and enemy, then pull back as soon as you can.
Movement at night posted by: Snap
After an enemy encounter, never ever move strait ahead! The enemy will be anticipating you, they'll try to find cover and face in your direction. Even if you have superior night vision, you'll most probably end up being shot! Perform a maneuver and attack from the side or from behind, and you'll have much better chance to catch them off guard.
Working with spotters posted by: Snap
I often use this tactic, esp. later in the game, when we have good rifles and good marksmen. Have a merc with the best night vision (night ops and/or NV/UV goggles) move a little ahead, and the rest of his team just behind. When the spotter sees an enemy he fires once (this is important), then others behind him finish off the enemy. The spotter saves APs for possible interrupts during the enemy's turn. The reason he/she has to fire first is a peculiar game behavior: if a guy behind fires at an enemy who can not see him, the enemy often gets an interrupt and can throw a grenade or even fire back very accurately. However, if the spotter fires first, such interrupts almost never happen.
Night Ambush posted by: Grim Reaper101
If any of your merc is a Night Ops specialist, one of the best tactic you can use is the night ambush. Find an open area (as far from lights as possible) and wait for an enemy to appear. Your Night Ops guy should see him first. If he is a good shot, take out the enemy soldier at long range, if not, get closer and kill him WITH A NOISY WEAPON. His buddies will surely run to the sound of battle and your team can take out those other enemies too. This way, you can clear 1/2 to 3/4 of the enemies in a sector. The remainder you'll have to hunt down.

Whenever attacking the SAM sites, and many of the larger fortifications for that matter, try attacking at night, even if you don't have a lot of silencers and night goggles. Most of the troops will stay near the perimeter, which is usually well lit. Keep your troops well out of the light (about 2/3 normal engagement distance), and plink away with rifles and machine guns. Unless the guards have lots of grenades (or you get spotted without killing the spotter imediately afterwards), you just watch them run around like they're waiting to get shot. Don't worry about silencers (can't use them with the rifles anyway); if they can't see you at all, they usually won't/can't retaliate.

When using this tactic, it's best to use a 3-man team: 2 snipers, 1 cover man. If anybody has night vision, it should be the cover man; he will take care of enemies who get too close and will watch for enemy nightwalkers.

Cause even more havoc by having one shooter team (or more) concentrate fire on one side of the compound, while another team (fast, stealthy, WITH night goggles and wire cutters) slips in on the other side. There is usually gaps in the light patterns and, with the opposite-side distractions, you can usually punch a pretty big team through your hole in the fence.

Nighty-night from a sniper posted by: Shanga
When you start the game, buy one of the qualified snipers (Lynx & Len did it for me). Then try to get a night-op specialist out of the IMP survey. That is a guy/girl with break-lights. Then attack at night. Place the sniper(s) on a roof overlooking the central plaza (most towns have one). Use stealth to get there. Have your night-op specialist ready nearby with a break-light. Shot a bullet in the air with the sniper. When the enemy comes to get him/her, throw the break light where they are (the bar is very light and goes much far than a grenade). The result: enemies will keep coming out of the dark and they will be like sitting ducks for your sniper (even if he's not a night operative). But watch those AP's, you have to prone your sniper after a shot. If you don't, you'll get him/her killed.

I have only played the demo but I found that for a good stealth attack with out the alarm going off, it is best to attack at night and with silences, and night googles if you have enough money(?). Night ops are good as the enemy carn't see you until you breathing down their necks, though sometimes night ops can be a bit scary. Just remeber Save Save Save.

Follow Sam's instructions carefully :), but dont forget to pack laser scopes for the night ops, your merc's will hardly miss even on targets they dont see and others see for them, one more thing go in 2 groups of 2-3 pepole, because usually you find one soldier against you and 2-3 is enough for wiping him without reaction. that's all.

Chemlights are good. Carry plenty if you plan on a night op even once. If you ever get shot at from the dark and the enemy is outside your field of vision, chuck a chem light over there. Viola. You can see the bastard. Conversely, remember to STAY OUT OF LIGHT. If you're in a sector with ANY houses, stay away from their front doors. They tend to have lights near them. You get into the light, you can be seen, and your enemy can cap you from the darkness. And that would be very very bad.

ALWAYS move in sneak mode until you really get into a firefight. You'll have a better chance of getting the drop on an enemy. Also, try an lure the enemy to you. If you get into a fight and kill just one guy with an unsilenced gun, odds are his friend just heard you. This can be a good thing. After you drop back into real time mode, just sit still for a moment. If you hear a noise, turn all your mercs in that direction and move your mercs near one another so that they'll all have a better chance at an interupt. Chemlights, NVGs (or UVGs), and Laser Sights along with smart tactics will make you make sure that EVERY fight is a night op. The night can be your greatest advantage. Use it well.

Snipers, SAMS, & Night Ops posted by: Overlord
I use this technique almost exclusively and it works like a champ. Always attack new sectors at night. This is very important. When you have a couple of night vision goggles, put them on your three best men (or more if you have them). Always move with stealth mode on. Position at least two mercs on a roof top facing where you know the enemies most likely are. Give them sniper rifles with scopes if possible, as well. Cover the doorways if you know they might be coming out of them also. You can move your mercs around on the ground spotting for the bad guys, and use the snipers to pick them off. This works extremely well. I have conquered may sections including Sam sites (and killing Mike) without taking a hit. Also, always wait until your mercs give the all-clear (real-time) before moving again. This will give them the most AP's, and you will almost always see bad guys first. My favorite combo for this is Shadow, Grunty, my custom merc, and Conrad.
