When fighting the bugs, I used only my custom character, coated him with Gabby's exlihir and armed him with a crowbar (no kidding) and a spare rifle. Becos the exlihir makes you invisible (up to the immediate squares surrounding the bug)you should be able to get some good whacks and move away before the bug's turn. When the bug is sufficiently weak however, it will be stunned and you can just stay real close and hammer away. It does take quite a long time to kill a single bug when you inflict between 2 and 3 points of damage, but at the end of the quest, I had gained at least 10 points of strength AND dexterity. (plus great economy on the ammo)
For some strange reason, the adolescent are immune to the crowbar (hence the spare rifle) and of course you'll need to plink away at the queen also...

Easy way to kill the queen bug.

Instead of using precious grenades simply get a high level merc, I
used Shadow, and have him stand outside the entrance to the queen's lair and
save the game. Then have him move one step inside the entrance. He will see
the queen and then will have enough Aps to fire a couple of shots or burst
and then duck back behind the wall. THis method is very tedious and takes
time but you can use two mercs to speed it up. Just make sure you don't
leave a merc in her visible path or kiss that merc goodbye. Hope the tip

Killing the Queen Bug

By the time you find the queen bug you'll be pretty beat up. No need to face her directly. Go as close as you can to the edge of the wall before you are actually targeted by the queen. Save to find this out. Without going any further or endangering yourself toss grenades at her. Yes you can actually throw over the cave wall here. I tossed and fired every gas stun, explosive grenade I had and killed her.

Follow Gunny's suggestion above but toss a mustard gas grenade instead. This will nearly kill the queen. A few shots will finish her off.

Easy Bug Kills

Just use the MadLab robot to kill the bugs. The bugs will not attack
the robot, but will surround it. You may need to reload the robot a few
times, but the bugs will remain in place. Works for all the creatures,
including the queen bug.

Method to kill the Bugs

If you happen to go into the bugs' lair without elixirs, another easy way of killing them would be to station all your mercs behind a corner. Once they're nicely positioned, ask one of your mercs to shoot the ground. These bugs will then come running towards the sound. Once they pass the corner, your mercs will automatically interrupt and then you can go bursting them away. To pack the most damage to these creatures, load up your guns with HP bullets(the blue colored ones) This method can be counted as really cheap but hey, it still works!

Easy way to finish bug sub-mission

Well, I was a bit dissappointed how difficult the bug quest was,
and so I unintentionally stumbled upon a great solution to anyone who wanted
to try the quest out, but didn't have the patience to go through the whole
Drassen mine. I went down the mine at about 2:30, 2:45 pm and there were no
bugs. I went all the way down to the bottom level, where the eggs are...no
bugs. I left the screen to start back up, and bugs appeared on the next
screen. So I put all my mercs in the queens room, places tons of tnt on the
floor about where she appears, and had Ira go out of the sector, and then I
had her come back after being attacked. This put all my mercs in the room
with the queen, and all I had to do is detonate the tnt remotely with
trevor. Then I just kept shooting the queen, and it kills all the bugs in
the whole cave, ending a terribly hard quest.

Bug fighting trick

If you're playing on Sci-fi mode and you don't want to fight the Crepitus
every night, there's a simple trick that seems to avoid it. (for me at
least). If you have a merc stationed in the sector where the attack occurs,
choose the go to sector option. After watching the first round of combat
click out to the map screen and hit the time start button. This brings up
the encounter screen again. If you auto-resolve at this point, it doesn't
bring up the bugs for some reason and you do not have to fight them. Nifty,
eh?

Sent just one mercenary with at least 3
elixir's 2 mustard gas grenades an several normal grenades. Use the elixir,
and cross all screens until you reach the last one. The Queen can't see you
with the elixir, use firs the mustard gas and later the grenades, as soon as
the queen die all the bugs die too.
