If you use Nails, you may have noticed that he refuses to swap his leather vest for better torso armor. This means that just about any chest shot will do massive damage to him. There is one solution to this that'll raise his survivability quite a bit. He is willing to trade out the vest for the enhanced leather jacket that you get from Angel in San Mona, and his armor goes up a significant percentage.

My tip for a good merc is quite simple. 85 for wisdom, agility and marksmanship. Spread the rest how you want (according to your preferences). But when you answer the questionaire, make sure you answer it to get ampidexterity and night ops. Ampidexterity combined with two MP5s is pretty awesome (especially if they are silencer equipped). This option makes getting through night ops so easy, because one merc has so much firepower!!!!!

When creating your IMP merc at the beginning give him Wisdom of 85 and also a marksmenship of 85, Wisdom is important because you learn things faster, I found that my IMP merc quickly got up his marksmenship to 99 and has increased all his other stats significantly, stats like mechanical and explosives that you might leave really low increase significantly at first because of high wisdom. Also, when you're training militia remember that after you've filled all the sectors with 20 militia men you can continue to train them until they are all regulars... I often used Ira to continue training them until they were all regulars while my more skilled mercs continued to take more sectors... this makes holding sectors alot easier and reduces the likely hood that you'll have to come back and train new militia men.
