How do I create my own mercenary?

Open the email from Psych Pro Inc. (IMP) and go to their homepage (email and Internet is part of your in game laptop). The activation code is mentioned in the IMP email, it is XEP624. You start creating your own mercenaries by typing your name, call sign, choosing a gender, picture, and voice. Then, depending on your JA2 version, you will be able to either choose your skills (v1.13) or have the game select them for you by answering a questionnaire (Vanilla). After determining your skills, you get to distribute point on the physical attributes of your mercenary; however there will be limitations to the minimum and maximum ability scores you can select. Your starting equipment depends on your starting skills. A few things you can't choose are the colors of your clothes and your form of body, the later depends on your strength and agility score.

Tips for making a good merc (posted by: Rohan Gillett)

My tip for a good merc is quite simple: 85 for wisdom, agility and marksmanship. Spread the rest how you want (according to your preferences). For your skills get ambidexterity and night ops. Ambidexterity combined with two MP5s is pretty awesome (especially if they are silencer equipped). This option makes getting through night ops quite easy, because one merc has so much firepower!

How to get more money in JA2?

To make money in JA2 you have to conquer back Arulco's mines. There are 4 active mines in Arulco, the nearest and best mine to start with can be found from D4 Drassen. The other three mines can be found from H8 Cambria, H3 Grumm, B2 Chitzena. The mine in D4 San Mona doesn't produce any income, it is inactive. To get the miners to work, you have to talk to the mine owner after you have cleared the mine sector from enemies. Remember the more loyal the town is the more money will be mined.

If you have a good hand to hand fighter or a merc with martial arts skill then check out the bar on D5 San Mona. Here's a good place to make some serious cash, easily and in a short amount of time. Just talk to Darren and he will arrange a fight for you. Darren can usually be found at the bar, but he's not always there.

To earn some cash by killing people find Carmen, he can usually be found in the bars all around Arulco. Talk to him and offer your help. He gives you a disk, but you don't have to do anything with it. The file on the disk will be automatically transferred to your laptop. Now read the file to find out who is a wanted terrorist.

Last but not least bloodcat pelts, claws, teeth are really quite valuable, but there's only one person who will buy these, can you guess who he is? - Well he's our old pal, the loved Irish arms dealer from Deadly Games, "Mickey". You might find him in one of the bars in Arulco, so keep your eyes open.

How can I heal my mercs?

To provide first aid, put the med kit or first-aid kit into the main hand of the merc who has doctor skill. Select that merc and right click to bring up the red cross cursor. Click the red cross on the injured merc to begin healing. First aid does not fully heal your merc, it just stops the bleeding, so that the merc will no longer lose health. To completely heal your mercs, go to the map screen and use the assign button to assign a merc with good doctor skill and health kit as a doctor, and the one(s) you need to heal assign as patients. Now click the time compression on the bottom right corner of the screen and watch how your mercs health increases. Regen Boosters can also be used to heal injured mercs. Just apply to a mercs torso in the tactical screen. Do not exceed 4 Regen Boosters a day to any merc as permanent health damage can result. Also the Hospital in Cambria can heal your mercs as well. Doctors Vince and Steve will heal your mercs for a fee after you liberate the hospital sector. Warning: Dont steal any medical supplies from the hospital warehouse, if you do they will not want to help you.

How to raise loyalty in town?

By completing all the quests associated with that town, eliminating enemy patrols near the town, training a militia to guard the sectors, not harming innocent civilians, capturing nearby towns.

Getting hold of a vehicle

There are 3 vehicles in the game. An Ice Cream Truck driven by Hamous who is recruit-able for $250 a day. He is usually on the roads between Drassen and Cambria or Drassen and Alma but can be found on other roads. Random each game. Another vehicle a Hummer can be purchased for $10.000 from NPC Dave. He is found in a service station 1 sector west of Balime. The 3rd vehicle is a helicopter whose pilot Skyrider can be found in a random sector near Drassen. After clearing out Drassen Airport, talk to the locals and you will hear that they are missing a helicopter pilot. You can find the helicopter pilot on some of the swamp sectors near Drassen. When moving on the map, a message "you have seen someone on sector xx" will appear when on a correct sector. Just press stop and locate the pilot. Be sure that merc with high leadership talks to him, so you can get him to join your ranks. He won't join you in a battle, but if you escort him back to Drassen Airport, he will always help you out by transporting your crew with his helicopter, for a small fee. Escort him safely to Drassen airport and he will fly you through safe airspace for $100 a sector. All vehicles have a capacity of 6 mercs. The road vehicles must be refueled when out of gas. Gas can be obtained at Estoni from NPC Jake.

Shops & Dealers in Arulco

There is Tony in the back of the XXX store in San Mona who deals in ammunition, weapons, accessories. Franz in Balime deals in weapons, electronic items such as NVG Laser Scopes. Extended Ears, armour, camoflauge kits, ceramic plates etc. Howard in Balime deals in medical supplies. Sam in Balime has jars, breaklights, toolkits, ammunition and lots of various items. Jake in Estoni deals in gas to refuel vehicles, weapons, medical supplies, compound 18, ceramic plates and various items. Keith in Cambria deals in guns, armour and various items. NPC "Mickey" deals in bloodcat parts (location random). NPC "Gabby" deals in Bug parts (Location Random). NPC "Fredo" in Grumm repairs and resets Rocket Rifles. NPC "Devin" deals in all explosives including LAWS, grenades, mortar shells (random location).

Where can I recruit free or cheap NPCs?

Many sectors have recruit-able mercs who will join under various circumstances. In Omerta Ira will join on day 1. Dimitri will join after you capture Drassen. Miguel and Carlos will join after you liberate 5 towns. In Tixa Dynamo and Shank will join after you free them. In Estoni Maddog will join you. In Alma Conrad will join you but for a high fee. You may meet Hamous with his Ice cream Truck on the road who will join you. There are others as well.

Where can I find Deidranna?

Deidranna can usually be found from the center of her palace on sector P3 Meduna. There is also a possibility that she is hiding in the basement of that same place. You can access the basement from the fireplace or from a secret passage at O3 Meduna. If you can't find her from either of those places you could also try sector N7.
